Reconsidering "BLINK-ness" in the Reiwa Era
Hello, this is Tanaka from BLINK.
It's been a while since the new imperial era name "Reiwa" was announced, and I've finally gotten used to its sound, which initially felt a bit unfamiliar.
When starting something new, encountering unfamiliar words or things can be perplexing at first. However, sometimes understanding the thoughts and meanings embedded in them allows them to naturally resonate with you.
Reiwa is apparently translated into English as "Beautiful Harmony."
The moment I learned that translation, I immediately grew fond of the word "Reiwa."
What BLINK Can Do in the Era of "Beautiful Harmony"
In this chaotic modern age, I feel that thinking simply and living sincerely are becoming increasingly important again.
With a continuous stream of news about corporate misconduct, falsification, and cover-ups, I believe that a "lack of harmony" is at the root of it all.
In the world of business, the Omi merchant's saying "Sanpo Yoshi" (good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for society) has been passed down through generations.
Following this spirit, an attitude of "as long as I'm good" will eventually lead to a loss of trust and the failure of business.
The world is overflowing with similar products and services.
That's why I want to know who made it, with what thoughts, and how, and then choose it with conviction. This is especially true for things I use every day.
Why BLINK Makes Scissor Cases
Looking back, BLINK started making scissor cases because "there wasn't a scissor case that I truly wanted to use myself."
It wasn't that I quit being a hairdresser to become a leather craftsman, but rather, as I pursued my ideals, the necessary skills and equipment naturally increased, and before I knew it, the workshop was equipped with as many machines as any leather manufacturer.
This is the result of simply pursuing "what I want to create," not to compare with others or to compete.
Still, as a Hairdresser
Even now, we value cutting hair as hairdressers.
In salon work, we actually use BLINK's scissor cases, which allows us to check their usability and receive real feedback from customers.
Making scissor cases and working as a hairdresser.
Both are a part of our lives and a means to express our thoughts.
Spreading Love and Empathy
There are people who empathize with our "likes" and "how we want to be," becoming fans or joining us as staff—
I truly feel that this kind of gradually and naturally expanding relationship is the form of a growing company in the coming era.
Things and concepts harmonizing effortlessly and beautifully.
I feel that this trend is accelerating even more with the Reiwa era.
We will continue to create products in the "BLINK way," being honest and sincere, and genuinely making things we "love".
