Redesigning an 8-Scissor Case: Challenges and Improvements Identified Through Custom Orders

We redesigned the 8-scissor case.

This 8-scissor case was custom ordered by a friend in Nagoya.
I had previously made one with the same specifications, but then I received a message saying that "the seams had started to tear," so after checking its condition, I decided to remake it.

Leather Products and Durability Balance

Even though genuine leather is strong and highly durable, it can still suffer damage depending on the usage environment and contents.
I believe the damage this time was likely caused by the leather being unable to withstand the weight of 8 pairs of scissors.

As a result of applying the same structure as the 4-scissor cases that BLINK SCISSORS CASE has developed so far, the leather may have been overstressed during long-term use and torn.

If brushes or trimmers were also added, the burden on the leather would have been even greater.

The feedback we received provided an "improvement plan"

Actually, the previous 8-scissor case was our first attempt at making one.
The design itself was simple, but the structure was quite challenging.

This time, the feedback from my friend in Nagoya about the condition after use was a great learning experience that we can apply to future custom orders.

For standard products, similar problems are rare because they have a certain track record of use in salons, but I realized that for custom-made products, the strength design needs to be reviewed according to the usage conditions.

Here is the redesigned 8-scissor case.

This time, we increased the thickness of the leather and further reinforced the most stressed parts with rivets, significantly improving durability.

On the back, the salon's original engraving is subtly placed. The result is a simple yet distinctive item.

Turning feedback into reality

It's truly gratifying to discover issues only visible through actual use, and then derive new solutions from them.
This production was also a valuable learning experience.
